Videojournalism is a new field that has grown out of traditional print photojournalism, slideshows that combine sound and pictures, public radio, documentary filmmaking and the best of television news features. This amalgam of traditions has emerged to serve the Internet's voracious appetite for video stories.

Videojournalism is written for the new generation of "backpack" journalists. The solo videojournalist must find a riveting story; gain access to charismatic characters who can tell their own tales; shoot candid clips; expertly interview the players; record clear, clean sound; write a script with pizzazz; and, finally, edit the material into a piece worthy of five minutes of a viewer's attention. Videojournalism addresses all of these challenges, and more - never losing sight of the main point: telling a great story.

This book, based on extensive interviews with professionals in the field, is for anyone learning how to master the art and craft of telling real short-form stories with words, sound and pictures for the Web or television. The opening chapters cover the foundations of multimedia storytelling, and the book progresses to the techniques required to shoot professional video, and record high quality sound and market the resulting product.

I recommend this book
By Stan Edwards
I found this book was everything I was looking for. The explanations were clear and most helpful. Its not easy to find quality info on this subject. I balked at the price initially, but after reading the book and learning so much, I'm pleased I made the purchase.

great book, great condition
By Bmmont
First off, the condition of the book was great! I've only gotten through the first chapters of this book, but so good so far. It's a required text book for class, so don't have much to say. It does give you great examples of video stories, which I truly enjoy. It's also easy to understand.

Videojournalism - Start to FInish
By Sandra Bruckner
If you have a story you would like to turn into video, this book is for you. It not only walks you through the process of shooting good video -- but it helps you to select the story based on what will be of more interest to your viewer. Anyone can shoot video, but few actually capture the story behind the moving pictures. Do you capture the "story of the day" or do you go for the more unusual event? Will the story be more meaningful from a first-person point of view or from afar?
Doing the ground work on putting a video together is THE most important part of video journalism. People will want to learn your story -- not because you have pretty pictures -- but because your story is more compelling. You make it compelling by inserting your point of view or finding the most unique aspect of the story and making it the focus of attention.
Don't get me wrong, there are some fantastic segments on what will make your video good. Kobre dissects all the aspects of video journalism -- from finding a story, shooting the video, writing the script, conducting interviews and making sure you have the legal end of things tied up so that you can market your story.
This is a wonderful resource for any journalist who wants to show AND tell their story.
