I'll show you mine

I started reading this book with some trepidation. Having been a gay man in the closet for all of my life I fully expected a semi-hidden agenda designed to influence me to either come out or just go away. Mr. Anthony has captured the true essence of what it means to be different in a way that does not attack the status quo or ignore it. He quite simply captures the joy and drama and heartbreak of being gay in a non gay world and yet never resorts to the tactics of the normal gay novel. While he tells a very good and entertaining story his greatest accomplishment is in not overloading the reader with sex.......the sex in this novel is just a minor part of the story. His main theme (at least to these old and jaded eyes} is to just present a vibrant and cohesive portrait of a gay man traveling down a road familar only to the gay readers.....except this time this well written narrative will amuse and touch the mainstream non-gay audience. I can only wish that he had written it earlier so I could have had a better understanding of just who I am. The book is "I'll show you mine" by James Anthony.

This Is A Must Read

Danny's life is as full as we should wish ours to be. The intrigue of forbidden sex, artificial love, and lengths a gay man will go through for a taste is magical, absurd, and illogical. But we do it despite the conscience of common sense. I challenge future readers of this story to not find parts of themselves. Rather we can bond with Danny's experiences or revel in the notion of wanting to experience some of his journeys, this story will provoke arousal, laughter, pain, and sorrow. Such as life. Such as Danny's life.

I enjoyed your book. So many of the cultural events you mention are still fresh in my memory and your observations make me recall how I dealt with the same events. Now when I recall the Mexico City Olympics I will think of your personal loss and I share your same memories of the Camelot years of the Kennedy years. Good read.

So disappointed in this book

Not every story has a happy ending but when I invest this much time and this much money into a series, I like knowing that their is character growth. Marcus seems to regress in character.
I gave this a three star review because, I felt the plot was just a filler to get to the next book. I feel that the author is trying to lengthen the series and leaves the reader with cliffhangers to insure we buy the next book. This time the cliffhanger may have been to much in a to long of a series.
I am unsure if I will buy the next book, simply because I still root for Em and Marcus but I no longer care about their character. I'm more concerned with the other characters in the book. I am unsure if I will recommend this series to anyone because of the cliffhangers. I don't mind a cliffhanger but enough is enough.

The ending is shocking. I really hope Emmy and Marcus get their happily ever after. But not all stories have a happy ending

Ok, I figured that this book would have correct grammar and spelling after the others were so bad...but no, organisms instead of orgasm and many more throughout the book. even the little intro about tornadoes she wrote "whether" and "weather." Please have someone proofread all your books....I'm getting a freaking refund.

I saw the author many years ago, on Oprah. I thought her concept was so effective, yet, at the same time, so EASY to do! I decided to give it a try! I made a list to help me find Mr. Right.I was divorced,with no children, and wanted to meet a man who too, was without children. I love kids, but I saw how it affected children,the whole "Divorce, Dating, Re-marriages, New parents/Siblings scene,and I just felt it would be easier to be with someone, and start on a fresh slate.Well, I doubted I would find such a man, but, I DID!!!! I made a very, very specific list, and put her ideas into action, and one thing lead to another, and I met my wonderful husband! It is amazing that something as simple as putting things to paper, and putting them "out there" into the universe, can deliver such positive results! I eventually wrote the author, to tell her of my good fortune, and she wrote me back,thrilled to hear of what had transposed in my life! I think it is a great concept to put our goals, and ideas in writing,as it gives us a definitive "blue print" to work off of! Simple,yes, but very EFFECTIVE!!!!

This book is freaky...in a good way

Not only does this book give good advice on the power of written word in manifesting your desires, but also this is one of the few books that's I've read repeatedly, and I swear it's like every time I read this book and write something down it happens! I know, it sounds bogus but it's true! This book really solidified my belief in the law of attraction and the other laws of the universe.

Very well written

As a modern textbook in the theory of relativity, this book is rare, in that its goal is to give the reader a conceptual introduction to the theory, and not just mathematical formalism. The author also does not hesitate to include some philosophical argumentation wherever needed. It is written for the advanced undergraduate, and will prepare such a reader for more advanced reading in the subject.
The first chapter of the book is the best, for it is a comprehensive discussion of the origins of the theory of relativity as one that rejected the assertion that space and time were absolute. The author also gives an interesting historical discussion of Lorentz's ether theory, wherein Lorentz hypothesized that bodies moving through the ether undergo a contraction, and he discovered a time transformation that implied that clocks moving through the ether run slow. As the author points out, Lorentz thought such considerations were purely mathematical, and not important physically. In addition, in the section on Mach's principle, the author discusses briefly the work of Dennis Sciama who showed that the 1872 gravitational theory of F. Tisserand included Mach's principle. I was not aware of this work, and it motivated me to do further reading on the subject. The author also gives several examples to show that Mach's principle is not physically vacuous, but has observational consequences.
Chapter two overviews the kinematic consequences of the special theory of relativity. The most interesting part of this discussion was the section on the formulation of special relativity without assuming the invariance of the speed of light. The author shows that the principle of relativity implies that either all inertial frames are related by Galilean transformations, or all are related by Lorentz transformations with the same (postive) velocity (squared).
A discussion of optical effects follows in chapter 3. One unexpected and interesting result in this chapter is that a moving sphere has a circular outline to all observers because of length contraction.
Some of the mathematical formalism needed in special relativity is overviewed in chapter four. The class of four-vectors and four-tensors is defined, and the light cone geometry discussed in detail.
The relativistic mechanics of point particles is covered in chapter five. Such a theory is cast in the language of four-vectors, and the author explains nicely the mass-energy equivalence, analyzes scattering from a relativistic standpoint in the center of momentum frame, and shows how Newtonian mechanics is altered in the relativistic realm. He also spends a little time on relativistic continuum mechanics, via the energy tensor of the simplest continua: dust.
The connection between relativity and electrodynamics is outlined in chapter six. The material is standard and found in most books on relativity.
The author begins the study of general relativity in chapter seven with some elementary considerations of the differential geometry of curved surfaces and also Riemannian spaces. The author endeavors, rightfully, to explain the mathematics in a way that is intuitive as possible, rather than hitting the reader with highly abstract formalism.
He then presents the mathematica foundations of general relativity in chapter eight. After a brief review of tensor calculus, the author considers the gravitational field equations in a vacuum, emphasizing their nonlinearity. This is followed by a detailed discussion of the famous Schwarzschild solution. In addition, he considers a particular exact solution of the Einstein field equations in a vacuum, namely a plane-fronted gravitational wave. Although not physical, this solution illustrates some important properties of general gravitational radiation.
The author ends the book with a fairly detailed overview of cosmology. The difficulties in the pre-relativistic cosmology are discussed, one of the more interesting being the consideration of the Newtonian gravitational field inside a cavity resulting from the removal of a finite sphere from a static universe. Recognizing that Poisson's equation does not have a constant solution led to the alteration of the Newtonian potential and thus a modification of the Poisson equation. As the author observes, this move to get a static Newtonian universe is formally the same as what Einstein did via the introduction of the cosmological constant in his field equations (also to get a static universe). The author also considers the Robertson-Walker, Milne, and Friedman universe, and compares these to what is known observationally.

subtle approach to SR and GR

Although not the most comprehesive text on
the subject (see Thorne's tome, Gravitation),
Essential Relativity is perhaps the most
fulfilling book from which to learn both special and general relativity on a graduate school level.
Flipping through the pages, one cannot help
but notice that it often reads like a novel.
For the student or the adventurous, a wide
variety of problems are found in an appendix.
The author's background in differential geometry
is very evident in his excellent explanations
of difficult concepts.

Good for its discussions and "relativistic intuitions"

This is a good book to learn the basic concepts behind relativity beyond the popular science books. It is a mid-level text aimed at an audience familiar with mathematics/physics but less inclined to go through something more comprehensive like Weinberg. Its value is largely in its discussion rather than rigorous derivations and proofs. In fact, it is quite lacking in the mathematical discussion (results occasionally show up with little introduction or explanation). What popular science tries to convey via hand waving and the advanced texts ignore (due to their "philosophical rather than scientific relevance"), this book attempts to correctly explain. Examples would be discussions regarding inertial frames, Mach's principle, and the general physical/philosophical/practical implications of seemingly "benign" results.

I would not recommend this book to learn general relativity (as opposed to special relativity), however. It glosses over several mathematical preliminaries, especially those of tensor calculus. Once the concepts and strategies are understood, the best way to learn general relativity is directly via tensor calculus. Lawden's concise book in this case (Introduction to Tensor Calculus, Relativity and Cosmology) is undoubtedly one of the best investments to make in this regard. Otherwise, Weinberg is, as mentioned previously, the veritable bible of relativity and related cosmology but is not definitely not something to read sitting in front of the fireplace.

Also be warned, the hardcover copy is of quite poor quality. The pages seem low grade recycled (nothing wrong with that though) and the print is blurry (not crisp).

My Love Hate Relationship

At first I hated the book "Conducting Business Ethically" by Dr. Martin Lecker --- not because it is a bad book--yet I'll address that later. Basically, I could not keep up and handle all of the philosophical questions that are asked after each chapter. My professor required us to write out all of the answers and hand in the book and our papers now by mid semester. It took me literally four to five hours a week to do all of the work plus write over six papers about philosophers and articles we read. Our grades depended on this as well and bear in mind that this is only a three-credit course. I was under extreme pressure studying for a long test we just took. As a result, I took my anger out on the book and its author. This went on for weeks and weeks.

We finally got to the point were we finished the test, handed in all the assignments; I now stopped to smell the roses. In retrospect I had really gained a great amount of value from this book and learned a lot. When the teacher instructed us to buy the text he should have said this is a YTML -"you'll thank me later" (book).

Basically, the book covered at least twenty-five philosophers in a concise way highlighting the most important details and aspects of their lives and philosophies. After my love hate relationship calmed down, I really began to appreciate the book. I liked that it was objectively written and leaves room for lots of thought and your own opinions. I realized after writing a load of papers about philosophers, there is a lot more to them than the book describes. I learned to gradually understand the teachings of Socrates and Aristotle as well and see things in a different light from before I began the class. I had started to understand the connections they have with the more contemporary philosophers and how these all fits in with Business Ethics. We had just scratched the surface. Now the real practical part will begin--the other half of the book which deals with businesses today.

Thank you Dr. Lecker---I learned to love you and your book.

This is a good book, I had to purchase it for my Business in ethics class, It is a great book and really makes you think, it is well worth the money! The price is also very good and Amazon shipping is known to be very fast. Definitely recommended!

Please pass on the textbook

Lecker incorrectly lays out the concept of prima facie duty. I am not shocked by this matter, though, because Mr. Lecker does not have a single degree in philosophy. This book is a common modern-day example of an individual with business degrees, that also have a nice, shiny Ed.D. in education who puts themselves out as an expert in ethics. His explanation of complex ethical theories reads like an undergraduate-level college student's term paper. This book is an example of why publishers should stick with the experts, rather than the individuals possessing an Ed.D in education.
