About the Author
Dr. Imad-ad-Dean Ahmad, a Palestinian-American Muslim, graduated cum laude from Harvard in 1970 and obtained a Ph.D. in astronomy and astrophysics from the University of Arizona in 1975. He has had years of experience as a parliamentarian and/or chairman of many organizations, both Muslim and of a general constituency. As President of the Islamic think tank, the Minaret of Freedom Institute, he has cultivated a special interest in issues of good governance in Muslim organizations and the Muslim world. He teaches honors courses in religion, science and freedom at the University of Maryland. Dr. Ahmad is the author of Signs in the Heavens: A Muslim Astronomer's Perspective on Religion and Science, co-author with Rose Wilder Lane of Islam and the Discovery of Freedom, and co-editor Ahmad Yousef of Islam and the West: A Dialog.

Grossly Misstates The Historical Context of The Roberts Rules of Order

Naval procedure has been a very positive influence on most common law from it's inception. A soldier might perform such a task well. Parlimentary procedure does not proceed from broadly "Western" tradition nearly so much as from various traditions of group decision making being appropriate to fundamental standards discernible in all or most groups. This is mainly the social contract tradition, and derivitive theories about how such standards must rest upon social contract derived political foundations. I appreciate informing such traditions with religious ones. Don't worry about Roberts too much on this count. He developed his Rules to facilitate his role in his religious congregation. His rules rest on the traditions of limited government and democracy pioneered by his American homeland when such were still far and away the minority in Western nations. Certainly regard any attempt to replace American parlimentary traditions with Arab/Ottoman Empire ones with great reservation. This book never attempts to distinguish Islamic tradition from Arabic/Ottoman Imperial legal tradition, despite giving a very controversial account of the former. It more seems to make American traditions appear a little more familiar to Muslims. There is absolutely no real scholarship to this book. Evaluate every bit of what it says on it's own merits, divorced from the merits of either American or Islamic tradition. it rests on the probably dubious merits ot one Imad-ad-Dean-Ahmad alone.

Shallow, parocial and thoroughly offensive

This is the most narrow minded and ethnocentric publication I have ever read in my life. Only for people who would synthesize libertarianism and Islam without critically examining the foundations of either.
