About the Author
John Baker is the founder of Celebrate Recovery, a ministry started at Saddleback Church. Over the last twenty-three years, it is estimated that more than 3.5 million people have gone through this Christ-centered recovery program. There are currently 30,000+ churches that have weekly Celebrate Recovery meetings. John and his wife Cheryl have been married over four decades and have served together in Celebrate Recovery since 1991. They have two adult children, Laura and Johnny, and five grandchildren.

An excellent precurser to starting a Celebrate Recovery

I bought this along with the hardcover book with the intent of running a study group for the purpose of garnering potential initial leaders for a full blown celebrate recovery at our church, and it worked beautifully for this goal. It is laid out as a workbook to be written in during 8 small group discussion sessions and so it is best paired with the hardcover book Life's Healing Choices as it assigns homework reading out of that book before each session. John Baker does a wonderful job of laying out the recovery principles based on the beatitudes from the sermon on the mount and driving home their application to any of life's hurts, habits, and hangups. When you get Jesus involved in your recovery, true healing begins. I can also recommend the DVD version of this study that has its own workbook to go along with it. It is the same material in a different format which may work better for some groups/circumstances.

My friend and I are enjoying this book and study guide so much and want to encourage others to study them along with the Bible. Really gets to the heart of things within us. We want to help with Celebrate Recovery at a church near our homes. Thanks for having them available for sale.

A parallel history of FDR and the US Conservation Movement

Only a quarter of the way through, but this is an exhaustive examination of the Conservation Movement in the USA, and at the same time a biography of FDR, who turns out to be much more of a lifetime conservationist than I ever knew about. I enjoy going through this episodic history of both and learn something from almost every page, including many facts that I only understood partially before.

It will take some time to get through Brinkley's account because he sure has done his homework.

Wonderful and informative. I have always admired FDR, and now I do so even more. One for the library to pass on to the grandchildren. Thank you Douglas Brinkley for all your research and the skill with which you put it all together.

One of The greatest books I have read... Remembering one of the worlds greatest leaders... Who set up a million man volunteer army to get through the depression and help conserve Americas wild and wonderful lands... Got us through the WWII in Europe and the Pacific but always had trees, birds and conservation on his mind.... Wish he could have stayed on to help conserve other parts of the world.. In Africa, Brasil, Asia... We seem to be in a leadership crisis today in 2016... What an amazing human being ... And let's go visit all his parks and wildlife refuges.. Wow

About the Author
James D. Smart was a Presbyterian minister who wrote more than thirty books on Christian education and biblical studies. He was Professor of Biblical Interpretation at Union Theological Seminary in New York City from 1957 to 1971. Smart died in 1982 at the age of 74.

The second book I have read by James Smart. No one would buy my copy now because of all the underlining I have done. Written in 1954, but excellent for and very applicable to our current day situation. Wish I had read it a long time ago.
