ESL teacher

I bought this for a pre-college ESL composition class that I teach and it was a God-send. There was no set curriculum or book to work out of for the first session of my class and I decided to select a textbook for my 2nd and 3rd sessions. I could not have picked a better book. The lessons built upon each other nicely, there was a lot of practice with creating more complex sentences, and paragraphs, there was a grammar point for each unit and lots of practice paragraphs for examples of what a good paragraph should look like AND bad paragraphs for editing purposes. Loved it. Recommended it to the teacher who took over after me. :-)

The Best

This book is part of a book series. I have attended the seminar presented by the author. The book is excellent in teaching college level courses of English to non-speakers. It helps them make the transition from low level language acquisition programs to a more concrete and structure form. Purchase it and experience an organized method for teaching students how to write.

About the Author
Robert M. Lee is is the CEO and Founder of the industrial cyber security company Dragos, Inc. He is also a non-resident National Cybersecurity Fellow at New America focusing on policy issues relating to the cyber security of critical infrastructure. For his research and focus areas, Robert was named one of Passcode’s Influencers, awarded EnergySec’s Cyber Security Professional of the Year (2015), and inducted into Forbes’ 30 under 30 for Enterprise Technology (2016). A passionate educator, Robert is the course author of SANS ICS515 – “Active Defense and Incident Response” and the lead author of SANS FOR578 – “Cyber Threat Intelligence." Robert obtained his start in cyber security in the U.S. Air Force where he served as a Cyber Warfare Operations Officer. He has performed defense, intelligence, and attack missions in various government organizations including the establishment of a first-of-its-kind ICS/SCADA cyber threat intelligence and intrusion analysis mission. Already looking forward to the next book!

This is an awesome follow-up to SCADA and Me! While the stories are not linked (except for the throwback at the end about the hackers) it's a continuation of Little Bobby and the field of security. I think it's quite a bit longer than the first book, but I still really enjoyed it. I feel Threat Intelligence and Me is more educational than it's predecessor, yet didn't lose the humor. I definitely actually learned some things this time around instead of just having a good laugh.

5/5 would recommend this for anyone in the field or for people wanting to learn about threat intel!

Inspiring and Thought-Provoking

The second book in the Little Britches series is both inspiring and thought provoking. Ralph Moody has a way of connecting with the reader. His narration is simple. He has a very straight-forward way of telling his stories that makes it seem like you are sitting down with him, listening to him tell tales of his childhood over a cup of coffee. The characters in his books come to life in vivid form. Your mind's eye can picture the sheriff with his long drawl, the blacksmith's rugged form, his mother pinching her lip as she puzzles out a problem. As I read of what this family went through after his father's death, how every single one of them pulled together and accomplished amazing things, I wonder if our family could do the same. Would we have the fortitude to bare up under extreme hardship? And not only to bare up, but to do so with contentment and optimism? Ralph and his older sister Grace as well as the younger siblings had to accept grown-up responsibilities at a young age. There was no self-pity or feeling that they were somehow missing out in life. The fruits of their labor were never viewed as individual property, but were given to the good of the whole family. A theme of selflessness and love for each other runs through the book. Though the title is "Man of the Family", the thread that ties it all together is Ralph's mother. Her utter selflessness, her constant labor, her unbelievable cheerfulness in the face of constant worry and struggle, and her deep love for her children and theirs for her is what makes this book so touching. She is a woman of tremendous character--character that leads her to right, even when it is hard, character that she passed on to her children. She inspires them to be all that they can be, and they rise to the occasion and meet the obstacles that life throws at them with cheerfulness and a sense of humor. It truly is amazing what a family can do.

Ralph Moody is once of the best children's authors ever

Ralph Moody is once of the best children's authors ever. I don't know why his books are not more well know. And the books he writes are not just for kids, adults enjoy them too. I loved them all and I just gave the first two to my mother and she loved them! Cameron Beierle is an excellent narrator. He does all the voices and he does a superb job. To me he makes listening to to the books better than reading them and I almost never feel that way. Don't hesitate for a minute,buy these CDs, they will touch you and stay with you in a way few books do!!

Wow, great book!

My little guy is 20 months old. We have 4 of these books..Happy, Sad, Scared, Angry. He loves them and asks for them. I read them to him with alot of drama, so he understands. I describe what the main character is doing and point out everything in the page. There are a few illustrations that he looks for specifically and tells ME what is going on. (Eg. "Mama saying No No No"; He points to the bunny and says "He crying.") Tonight he was upset and whining about all sorts of things (very tired), so we went into his room, shut the door and I attempted to look at a book with him. He actually sought out one on these books. When he found it, he kept repeating something and making a weird noise. I finally found the page he was referring to and could not believe it! There's a page in the story where the main character takes deep breaths to calm down. THIS is what he was doing and saying. "Deep breath" and mimicking what that is!
I'm online tonight looking to see if this author has more books. My little guy has always been very emotional. Looks people in the eyes alot and wants to know where everyone is. At 12 months, my aunt bumped her head when reaching for something under the kitchen table. He patted her head and gave her a hug. He's always been very in-tune with others, which is why I bought these books. They are great!

examples used in 'Feeling Sad' book not as expected

I bought this for my toddler and preschooler. We had "When I'm Feeling Angry," and liked it. However, the 'Sad' book gives examples that are too strong if a child has not yet experienced such events.

For example, this book has a page for "when someone or something I love dies," which pictures the little bunny crying with his dad over the grave of his grandma in a cemetery. 'Sad' is a weak description for the loss and grief experienced from a death. Another example is the bunny parents arguing. Sometimes children can feel at fault for disagreement between the parents. Again, I just feel the example raises more complicated emotions than just being sad.

I had been expecting examples for sad more along the lines of a friend moving away, or disappointment of not getting something you want.

Just wanted to take a moment to praise this darling book. I read it with my children this morning and found it lovely, appropriate, understated, and very compelling. As I started to tear up at a particular page, the very next page referred to how I was feeling and what I might do to feel better. Thank you Trace.

Horrible examples and numerous errors

Errors, errors and more errors. It's unbelievable. So many simple math mistakes in examples and equations. Some of the problems at the end of the chapter have the answers, and even those answers are wrong! The examples given in the book are horrible as well and show no direction or process to solving the problems. Half of the examples just plug all the variables into an internet module, so the reader doesn't learn how to solve anything! Unbelievable that my professor preached this book like it was the bible. The only reason it has two stars is because it goes over a lot of relevant topics in machine design, and despite the errors, it is a useful source of information as far as tables, equations, etc. If this book is required for a class, bless your soul, if you're looking for a machine design book outside of class, look elsewhere.

Design of Machine Elements comments

This book is so terrible that, if you are enrolled in a class for which this is the required text, i suggest that you drop the class or demand another reference from your professor. During my undergraduate curriculum I used this textbook for 2 seperate college courses on machine design, and so feel qualified to say that this is by far the worst textbook I have dealt with in my whole academic career. The 8th edition is full of even more errors than the 7th edition, so much so that it is almost laughable that the author even SUPPLIES "answers" for his chapter questions. Numbers are wrong, equations are incorrect and references to tables and graphics are abhorrent. The book is notorious for, in text explanations and sample problems, referring to uncited charts and graphs that are either no longer in the book or are hundreds of pages ahead. Good luck finding them. Errors aside, the book is an incoherent sampling of approximation techniques that may be suitable for the occasional industry user but are unacceptable for somebody seeking knowledge and understanding. Please do not reward the publisher with ANY money for this book.

Design of Machine Elements 8th Edition

The Newer Edition of this books has many errors, too numerous to list. Most of the errors are due to the newer computer graphics the publisher used. In the 6th edition the formulas and graphics were of good quality black and white drawings and print. Now, in the 8th Edition, the publisher is using color graphics that are reproduced in the text as grey scale. It is sometimes very hard to read the drawings because they are too busy. The formulas have been redone using the computer and not enough attention was used to make sure these are correct. The authors also tried to make use of excel sheets from the CD supplied. Using Excel, in my opinion, is much better then using a custom program that you will never use again. In making such a good CD the author has taken out many of the formulas and has now made it difficult to read this book while not in front of a computer. This is not the worst text book I have seen, it does have some good points. The 7th edition is much better, and if you really would like to get a book on Machine Design use Juvinall 2nd Edition
